The forecaster studies and issues daily smog forecasts by analyzing weather models (Eta, MOS, etc.) and examining current smog levels and frequently interact with clients to discuss air quality conditions. They develop smog forecasting tools and software and help prepare educational workshops in this emerging area of meteorology. Other operational responsibilities include monitoring and troubleshooting the AIRNow system (www.airnow.gov) that provides real-time air quality to the public.
