Climate Change Project Manager

Project managers lead GHG audit teams and projects.  They are responsible for overseeing and participating in the verification of GHG inventories and emission reduction projects.  Most possess experience in auditing in relation to GHG emissions and/or environmental management systems.  They are counted on to be leaders in their field with a previous understanding and abilities to manage projects related to GHG policies, GHG inventories, WBCSD/WRI, ISO 14064, CCX, RGGI, and ISO 9000 and ISO 14001 protocols.  Specific experience in energy, refinery, manufacturing, or other relevant auditing sector is also important to have.

The overall role of the climate change project manager is to plan, execute and finalize climate change projects according to strict organizational policies, objectives and deadlines, and within budget.  This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of interdisciplinary team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.  They also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.

Specially trained in climate change issues, a project manager may have to manage more than on project at a time; sometimes spread among different locales comprised of separate teams.  Because of the vital role they have, great care must be exercised in choosing a detailed oriented person capable of overseeing a great many issues and details simultaneously and ensuring that multiple projects are running smoothly.  Thus, the project manager needs to have excellent planning and organization skills.
