Geotechnical EngineeringThis field focuses on designing foundations for structures such as high-rise buildings, bridges, and medium to large commercial buildings, but also works on smaller structures where the soil conditions do not allow code-based design.
It also assesses the risk to humans, property and the environment from natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes, soil liquefaction, debris flows, and rock falls (all involving natural materials). To accomplish these tasks soil and water samples must be taken and analyzed at both the surface and subsurface level.
Professions in this field we routinely recruit include: - Geological and Petroleum Technicians
- Geologists and Soil Scientists
- Geotechnical Engineers
- Sampling Technicians
- Hydrogeologists
