Petroleum Engineer

Sequence has had a long association working in the petroleum engineering sector and clearly knows the vital role these engineers perform searching the world for reservoirs containing oil or natural gas.

When petroleum engineers discover these resources, they work with geologists and other specialists to understand the geologic formation and properties of the rock containing the reservoir, determine the drilling methods to be used, and monitor drilling and production operations. They design equipment and processes to achieve the maximum profitable recovery of oil and gas.

Because only a small proportion of oil and gas in a reservoir flows out under natural forces, petroleum engineers develop and use various enhanced recovery methods. These include injecting water, chemicals, gases, or steam into an oil reservoir to force out more of the oil and doing computer-controlled drilling or fracturing to connect a larger area of a reservoir to a single well.

Petroleum engineering requires a good knowledge of many other related disciplines, such as geophysics, petroleum geology, formation evaluation (well logging), drilling, economics, reservoir simulation, well engineering, artificial lift systems, and oil and gas facilities engineering.  In fact, it has become a technical profession that involves extracting oil in increasingly difficult situations as the "low hanging fruit" of the world's oil fields are found and depleted.

Sequence: we know petroleum engineering.

Sequence has been a leader recruiting and staffing petroleum engineers because we know and understand this discipline and the important component it is in the construction, engineering and environmental industries.  We have established ourselves as the premier recruiting and staffing firm committed to providing employment solutions to these major industries worldwide.

Much has changed in recent years in this industry.  Improvements in computer modeling, materials and the application of statistics, probability analysis, and new technologies like horizontal drilling and enhanced oil recovery, have drastically improved the toolbox of the petroleum engineer in the last couple of decades.

Petroleum engineers face many challenges.

Because mistakes can be measured in millions of dollars, petroleum engineers are held to a high standard. Deep-water operations can arguably be compared to space travel in terms of technical challenges. Arctic conditions and conditions of extreme heat have to be contended with.

Also, High Temperature and High Pressure (HTHP) environments that have become increasingly commonplace in today's operations require the petroleum engineer to be savvy in topics as wide ranging as thermo-hydraulics, geomechanics, and intelligent systems.

Petroleum engineers must implement high technology plans with manpower and high coordination, often in dangerous conditions. The drilling rig crew and machines they use become the remote partner of the petroleum engineer in implementing every drilling program. Understanding and accounting for the issues and communication challenges of building these teams remain just as vital to the petroleum engineer as ever.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers is the largest professional society for petroleum engineers and publishes much information concerning the industry. Petroleum engineering education is available at 17 universities in the U.S. and many more throughout the world - primarily in oil producing states - but not only top producers, and some oil companies have considerable in house petroleum engineering training classes.

Petroleum engineers have historically been one of the highest paid engineering disciplines; this is offset by a tendency for mass layoffs when oil prices decline.  According to a survey, the average income for a petroleum engineer is USD $122,458.  Forbes magazine reported that petroleum engineering was the 24th best paying job in America.

Sequence will recruit the best petroleum engineer for you the first time, every time.

With a long history working in the petroleum engineering sector, Sequence has developed an expertise unparalleled in the executive recruiting and staffing industry.  We know and understand the technical and professional nuances of this field.  As a result, we have developed a team of highly experienced, skilled recruiters and staffing professionals with broad industry experience.  They know petroleum engineering.

Their expansive industry network means they know where to find you the finest talent and how to obtain the best and the brightest petroleum engineers for your organization.  At Sequence, our recruiting philosophy, methodology and recruiting practices adhere to the highest standards in the industry.  It is why we are able to carefully screen and present only the most qualified petroleum engineering candidates who are readily available to make a difference in your organization.

Sequence: your trusted partner in HR.

Our recruiters and staffing experts can meet all of your personnel needs, from filling individual petroleum engineer jobs to recruiting and staffing entire practice groups, for both small firms or for global engineering, construction and environmental corporations.

We recruit and staff executive, management, administrative and field-level personnel for temporary and temporary-to-permanent petroleum engineering jobs, and for direct-hire positions throughout the engineering sector worldwide.  We also offer short and long-term temporary contract placements, outplacement services, long-term recruiting in addition to contracting a full range of HR services.

With such a diversity of applications, there is a nearly endless list of engineering sub-specialties with which Sequence has experience. Many of these specialties are vital to the clients we serve and require highly skilled expertise in planning, design and execution.
