Wetlands Biologist

A wetlands biologist is a scientist engaged in the understanding, monitoring and support of animals and plants found within wetlands.  They may specialize in animals, plants, reptiles or fish that exist within a specific type of wetland or be a generalist, studying how the various ecosystems within the wetlands interact.

In addition, wildlife biologists may also work within a zoo, park, reserve, or a private or governmental research facility to study and record the impact the industry and people have on the animals and plants found within a wetland ecosystem.

Wetlands biologists work directly to support the wetlands by designing and implementing conservatorship programs for the areas. They work closely with other biologists, land managers, governmental agencies and park and reserve managers to ensure the continued growth and existence of wetland species both within and outside of protected areas. Some wetlands biologists may work directly with endangered species to provide breeding areas and even monitor numbers to help with programs to save the species.

Many wetlands biologists that Sequence recruits for on a regular basis provide consulting services to industries and government departments, and make recommendations on policies and usage of various wetlands areas. They are also responsible for being the watchdogs for the wetlands environment and work to educate various groups about the importance of the wetland areas.

A wetlands biologist often provides education to children and interested groups and may facilitate tours and educational seminars within the wetlands area.
